hi
i’m rick.
i’m currently a researcher at [presto labs], a quant htf firm with a sell-side business and internal vc. i’m also advising crypto protocols with my brilliant co-founder isaac.
i’ve been working in crypto professionally since 2021 and this is where i practice my thinking. i write about crypto through a macro lense, and perhaps my training as a trader and engineer will at times reveal itself.
i’ve always had a million different interests, and have recently (and grudgingly) accepted that being a generalist is my edge, hence the name of this publication. even at college i took classes in painting / architecture / quantitative econ / pure maths / foreign policy / philosophy / etc., and barely had enough credits to graduate with a cs degree. generally, i’m interested in how & why people think the way they do (the “meta”) and this has driven my love for macro and crypto.
i’m currently based in tokyo but grew up in hk / sg / tky / syd / ny and have spent my professional years in ny / sg / ldn. i started my career trading interest rate derivatives at jp morgan in ny, then ran orca global, a multi-strategy digital assets fund (also with isaac).
i spend my free time listening to jazz and naturally aspirated cars rev to 9k rpm.
